Benjamin Franklin received one of the most prestigious scientific awards in the world when the Royal Society of London awarded him the Godfrey Copley Medal for his experiments in the new field of electricity. Franklin credited Archibald Spencer, an Anglican minister, with sparking his interest in electricity.

During the early years of the Eighteenth Century, the area of the New York colony was contested territory between France and England. When King George's War broke out, French and Indian raids into the area increased. On November 28, 1745, a raiding party hit the settlement hard, destroying it.

Native of Crimmitschau, Saxony, Germany Justus Falkner was the son of a Lutheran minister, David Falkner. In 1703, after a great deal of soul searching, he received ordination as a minister from Lutheran pastor Andreas Rudman in Gloria Dei Church in Philadelphia.
