A Brief History of Candle Making - A Short History of the Candle

The invention of the candle revolutionized human history.

Before the candle, darkness ruled the night.

In ancient times, the only nighttime illumination was from a fickle campfire or hearth. Then someone around 3000 BC came up with a better idea and the candle began its journey through human history.

The candle evolved through the ages from tallow to wax to paraffin. Then the electric light bulb supplanted it in the late nineteenth century.

Even now, the candle serves us in religious ceremonies. It enhances a warm atmosphere and even functions as a backup light if the electric goes out.

Long live the candle.
