A Short History of the United States Constitution

The history of the United States Constitution, its Bill of Rights and Amendments is a fascinating story.
It is important that people read and understand the US Constitution and understand its history. Knowledge about the underlying historical currents that led to the Constitution, Bill of Rights and subsequent Amendments is also important. The history of the United States Constitution is a story of compromise.
The Constitution of the United States is a document meant to govern government, not individuals. It stands unique in history in its goal of restraining the hand of government. The Framers understood that the liberty of the people was a fragile thing. They set up a government composed of checks and balances that they intended to make it difficult to govern. They felt that passing new legislation should be hard. They believed compromise between differing factions imperative. The Constitution was, and is, an important experiment in the history of the world.
Reading the Short History of the United States Constitution will help people understand the history of the Constitution of the United States. It should aid them in understanding the history of the Constitutional Amendments and Bill of Rights as well.
